A fair caveat: DigitalOcean is not limited to public, unmanaged VMs. Private Droplets have no direct public connectivity, and App Platform, managed databases and Cloudways use more managed delivery models. Record the Droplet configuration, attached volumes, private networking and any managed databases or application services. Plan how application data, administrative access and DNS will be tested before cutover.

  2. Test a representative workload, including access, performance and restore procedures.
  3. Agree data synchronisation, acceptable downtime, DNS changes and the rollback owner.
  4. Confirm acceptance criteria before retiring the original environment.
